- Great Illustrated Classics are also adult classics rewritten at a lower reading level. They are shelved alphabetically by the author’s last name in the Children’s Room
- Easy Reader books are children’s picture books designed to help build language and reading skills. The call numbers start with ER/ and they are shelved in the Easy Reader section of the Children’s Room

American Sign Language University – a free self study program by Dr. Bill Vicars, a tenured ASL Instructor at California State University.

Abisi Adult Education Center – Offering local English for Speakers of Another Language (ESOL) classes. Classes are for adult learners whose native language is not English. Students are placed in introductory, beginning or intermediate classes to improve their reading, writing and speaking skills. All instruction is in English. Students must be at least 18 years old.
Grace Chapel – Classes at Grace Chapel are designed to help immigrants and other internationals in the local community learn conversational English in a comfortable setting. Class levels range from beginner to advanced.
Merrimack Valley Immigrant and Education Center – Offering morning and evening classes in English for Speakers of Other Languages.
Sounds of English – An online guide to help improve pronunciation of English, and to help with spelling and reading. Lessons and activities are free.
Voice of America – Free online, video based, lessons for learning English.

Literacy Volunteers – The Literacy Volunteers of Methuen and the Pollard Memorial Library operate Adult Literacy Services in conjunction with the Literacy Volunteers of Massachusetts These programs offer ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) and Adult Basic Education (ABE) tutoring services on a one-to-one basis.
Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline (1-800-447-8844)- The Massachusetts Adult Literacy Hotline provides referrals to over 300 adult education programs that offer one-on-one tutoring, small-group or classroom instruction to adult learners. They also have an online tool for finding a program.
Massachusetts Coalition for Adult Education (MCAE) – Adult Education (MCAE) is the voice of adult basic education in Massachusetts. They include English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) among other basic education resources and programs.
