Edge of your seat Giallo films on Kanopy
Not quite horror, more a uniquely transgressive mystery thriller, giallo is a great film genre for sliding into the spooky season. Beginning in the late 1960s, finding its heyday in the 70s and extending into the 80s, Giallo merged elements of the psychological thriller, hard-boiled crime, and slasher horror. Viewers will often see the crimes shot from the point of view of faceless black-gloved perpetrators, with glamorous heroines as the victims. The splashy visual style is augmented with some of the most dramatic music in film, from the stylish scores of Ennio Morricone to Italian progressive rock band Goblin. Famous actors dabbling in the genre include a teenage Jennifer Connelly in Phenomena, Boris Karloff in Black Sabbath, and Joseph Cotten in Baron Blood. You can search Kanopy’s collection via tags, title, or other descriptor and watch instantly or add titles to your watchlist!
