Toddler Storytime, Friday, December 2

Each week during this Toddler Storytime, we sing some versions of the rhyme, “Two Little Blackbirds.”  There are so many different verses to this rhyme and it’s easy to make up your own with different opposite rhyming words.  Today everyone was offered the opportunity to take home some birds on a piece of paper to color and make their own “two little blackbirds.” Here are some versions of the song.  If you make up your own, please share it with us!

We also read the book Chicken, Chicken, Duck by Nadia Krilanovich.  If you feel like “quacking,” this is the book for you!

Baby Storytime, Friday, December 2

Today’s Baby Storytime offered lots of joy in singing, rhyming, reading and talking.  Everyone got the chance to chat a lot today, sharing stories of success and struggles with raising babies.  It is really wonderful to have a community of other grownups to talk to and share ideas with regularly.

Image of itemWe read the classic I Went Walking by Sue Williams, a delightful little story filled with animals and colors.  If you look closely at the pictures, you will see a clue for the next animal in the book.  This is a great book to help identify animals and make connections with experiences in your babyImage of item‘s world.  Sue Williams wrote another book that follows this one called Let’s Go Visiting, also a favorite for many.

This Saturday, December 3, is the library’s annual Gingerbread Festival!  You can decorate a cookie, listen to some stories, sing songs, and make a craft.  The fun starts at 10:30 AM;  all ages are invited.  In honor of this event, we started storytime with a version of this classic tale.  The spunky gingerbread man can easily outrun all of his pursuers, but what happens when he meets a sly fox?  Alas, in this telling there is NOT a happy ending for our intrepid cookie!

Mo Willems is an author with whom many children are familiar.  They love his Elephant and Piggie and Pigeon books.  Nanette’s Baguette is his newest tale, full of fun and tongue-twisting rhymes.  Our protagonist is thrilled to be assigned the task of going to the bakery all by herself to buy a baguette– but the fabulous smell of fresh, warm bread is a temptation almost impossible to resist.  Does the baguette make it home intact?  Read the story to find out!

Image of item Pete the Cat is also a favorite character for many.  We had fun singing Pete’s song and shouting out the different colors of his shoes as he steps into piles of strawberries, blueberries, and more.  Pete just keeps walking along and singing his song, because “it’s all good.”

Toddler Storytime, Friday, November 25

Image of item“The day after Thanksgiving” toddler storytime brought together a small group of familiar friends along with some new faces.  This Friday storytime includes a lot of movement as we “pound with hammers,” “do the Hokey Pokey,” and “Ring Around the Rosy,” to name a few.  Following a feasting day, it felt good to move a bit with excited toddlers and their grownups!  A very attentive group of children listened to the story No, Silly! by Ken Krug.  This book playfully embraces a toddler’s exploration of classic childhood activities, with the repetitive phrase, “No, Silly!”  A fun story for all!

Baby Storytime, Friday, November 25

Image of itemStorytimes were held today, the “day after Thanksgiving,” to a wonderful group of babies and their caregivers.  Many babies brought their daddies to storytime today and it was wonderful to hear the group join together in song, rhyme and story.  The story we read today is called Baby Faces by Margaret Miller.  It is a simple book with photos of real baby faces.  Babies love to look at faces of babies, including themselves.  Safely prop a mirror up and put your baby in front of it.  He or she may be fascinated for quite some time!

Toddler Storytime, Friday, November 18

Image of itemToddler storytime was filled with lots of energy and spirit today.  I saw Image result for sing it say it volume 3so many little ones joining in on the hand and body motions to lots of the songs and rhymes, with great happiness and joy!  We made lots of animal sounds as we read Denise Fleming’s Barnyard Banter and the children got to pop bubbles and move around while we listened to Peter and Ellen’s song “Thank You For All That You Do,” an appropriate song at this time of the year.

Thank you for always working together during the storytime to provide a positive experience for everyone.

Baby Storytime, Friday, November 18

We had a wonderful time together today during Baby Storytime.  There were so many babies and caregivers to be thankful for at this time of the year and everyday!

We read the classic Brown Bear, Brown Bear by Bill Martin, Jr. and Eric Carle.  This book has such a lovely pattern to it that it often becomes a bit sing-songy, which is always stimulating for the babies.  This is a book that will become a part of your lives for many years to come.

Thank you for helping to create a joyful baby storytime each week.
