Preschool Storytime, Monday, November 9

Today’s preschool storytime included stories about bears and stories related to Thanksgiving.  The children (and grownups) chimed in with “but the bear snores on” as all the animals continued to frolic in his cave for the winter.  We also though a bit about Thanksgiving, reading about dinosaurs eating food and a book about all things that are peaceful.  In addition, we chanted the rhyme about the silly turkey.

The turkey is a silly bird.

          His head goes wobble wobble.

And he knows just one word

         Gobble, gobble, gobble.

These are the books we enjoyed today.

Toddler Time, Monday, November 9

Maureen was absent today so I got the pleasure of leading the Toddler Time today!  With lots of help from the “regulars” we had a wonderful time singing and rhyming and moving around together.  It was easy with everyone doing their part of singing along, doing hand and body motions and supporting their children.

A very enthralled group of children (and grownups) listened to the story

Family Day Care Traveling Library Storytime

Traveling storytimes to Family Day Cares in Chelmsford continued this month with great visits to many homes.  The children are usually pretty excited when I walk in the door and they quickly sit down, ready for the stories and songs.  During the past few weeks, the children have heard a few books about animals and people having birthdays!  After the story, I pull out a birthday cake (made of paper) and the children do some counting and put candles on the cake.  We sing Happy Birthday to the bunny in the book or even to a child that is having a birthday soon.  “Happy Birthday” is always a fun song to sing and brings great smiles as we all think about birthdays and cake and all that goes with it!

Another fun book that has been making the rounds lately has been Hi, Pizza Man!  First we talk about how a pizza can get delivered to your home.  Some friends are familiar with this and others are hearing about it for the first time.  We have fun with the book as we keep turning the pages to find out who might be delivering the pizza.  The book ends with many of us hungry for pizza!

Often the family day care provider has a few questions about ways to incorporate more literacy activities into their program.  I always make sure to have time to chat with the provider and together we come up with some ideas that feel comfortable to try to implement.  When I return the following month, I often get great reports of how the activities went for the provider and the children.

Some of the books from this month have included

Baby Time, Friday, November 6

Today’s Baby Time brought together a familiar group of babies and their grownups.  We spent a lot of time hearing about different milestones and issues going on for the babies.  The different grownups were able to offer some of their own ideas and suggestions.  Anyone with a baby is welcome to join us on Fridays at 10:00am!

Today we read the rhyming and whimsical book called

Books for Preschoolers on Wednesday, November 4 and Friday, November 6

During last week’s rain-themed storytime, we had so much fun clapping our hands and stamping our feet to imitate the sound of a thunderstorm. Today we continued all that clapping and tapping with a storytime all about rhythm. You can click on the image of each book cover to find these books in the library catalog.

For families who usually come to the Wednesday morning storytime, please note that the library will be closed next Wednesday, November 11, for Veterans’ Day. We hope you’ll join us on a different day instead!
