2.6-1 SAFE CHILD POLICY

The Chelmsford Public Library welcomes children and hopes that they will find the library warm, inviting, educational and fun. When children under the age of 10 use the library, they are the responsibility of an adult or caregiver 14 years of age or older. Adult attention and companionship ensures that children will not feel anxious, frightened or vulnerable. Children ages 10 and older may use the library independently as long as they follow the rules of conduct for all patrons.

CHILDREN UNDER THE AGE OF 8 YEARS OLD MAY NOT BE LEFT IN THE CHILDREN'S ROOM WITHOUT AN ADULT, OR SOMEONE 14 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER, IN ATTENDANCE.

Staff members cannot provide supervision of children except at particular library programs designed for them. Staff cannot take responsibility for minor children left at any of the library locations at closing time. A minor who does not have firm arrangements for transportation should be encouraged to begin calling for a ride 30 minutes before closing time. A staff member will wait up to 15 minutes after closing with a child under 16 years of age. After that time staff will call the police for protective custody.

Your cooperation with our efforts to maintain a safe environment for all our patrons is greatly appreciated.
