The library just signed up with the Zinio online magazine collection - it allows patrons to read magazines online or on their mobile devices, just like holding the printed magazine in your hands:
Best of all, there is no waiting! If you see something you'd like to read, you can check it out and you'll keep it until you delete it from your account. The Chelmsford Library's Zinio magazine collection is starting with 40+ titles - and when you "subscribe" to one of these titles, new issues will automatically be delivered to your account.
Since this is a digital version, many magazines have enhanced content, also - embedded video clips, audio, or links to additional online resources. You are also able to download magazines to read while not connected to the internet.
Using Zinio requires two different accounts (which can be confusing at first). One account authenticates you as a Chelmsford patron, and is used for checking out magazines. The second account is your Zinio account, which is used for reading. One nice benefit of separate accounts is that if you get Zinio magazines from other sources (for instance, the Boston Public Library's Zinio catalog or if you buy magazines directly from Zinio), everything will appear together in your one Zinio account. When you first create your accounts, Zinio recommends using the same email/password combination when setting up your accounts.
If you have any questions about using Zinio on a computer or your mobile device, please contact the Reference Department at email@example.com or 978-256-5521 x211.Posted in Books | No Comments »
We have two copies of the magazine - one upstairs with the regular magazines that you can check out to use at home (except for the most recent issue), and another complete set downstairs in Reference. The most current year is kept at the Reference Desk, and we also keep the last few years too.
In addition to the magazine, the library also has the Consumer Reports Buying Guide, and new and used car buying guides.
The online version of Consumer Reports is listed on the Reference databases section of our website - you'll need your Chelmsford Library card number to log in from home.
For similar resources, check out our Consumer Information webpage - it lists other subscription services provided by the library, as well as free websites.
Another great resource is the Boston Consumer Checkbook - instead of reviewing products (like Consumer Reports), it reviews local services, like plumbers, roofers, etc. Print magazines for the last few years are available by the Reference Desk, and online access is available too, but you must be in the library.
For help with these or any Library resources, please contact the Reference Desk.Posted in Library Information, Reference, Resources | No Comments »
The library is now offering easy access to the latest articles in popular magazines!
For years patrons have had access to these same magazines, but they've been sort of buried in our subscription databases. Now, there's an "Online Newsstand" that displays magazine covers that lets you click right into that magazine.
This is available both on our main website and also on our mobile website - that way, you can have easy access to read magazines while you're on the go. New articles are added as the magazine is published, and you can also scroll to see past issues. There will also be more magazines added soon, too!
If you have any questions about accessing these magazines or any of our databases, please contact the Reference Desk.Posted in Current News, Reference, Resources | No Comments »
