Now, once again we’re asking for your help in choosing the next One Book Chelmsford, for 2011. Think about all the books you’ve read, or the books you’d like to read, and let us know which titles you’d like selected for the Town to read in 2011.

The next time you’re in the library, give your nomination suggestion to any staff member. Or, you can submit your nomination online by clicking the “Submit Your Nomination” link on our homepage or using the One Book Nomination Form.

The One Book Committee will review all the suggestions and narrow them down to three final choices. Then on Election Day in November, the entire Town will vote for which of those three they’d like to be One Book Chelmsford 2011.

This event will take place at 1:00 PM at the Chelmsford High School Performing Arts Center (directions and map). There is no admission fee, but we are asking people to register on our website so we know what size crowd to expect. Shutter Island will be discussed, but attendees are also encouraged to ask questions about any of Dennis Lehane’s books – including the upcoming Moonlight Mile.

The movie opened Friday, Feb 19th, and has been getting good reviews. If you haven’t seen it yet, how about seeing it with the Library? Details are still being worked out, but we’re hoping to have a “Chelmsford night” at a local cinema, so many of us who read the book can all watch the movie together.

In other movie news, the February and March Library Cinema Nights will be showing Dennis Lehane movies. February’s showing was Mystic River, and the March 18th Cinema Night will be another of his books. Check the Cinema Night webpage or the Library’s Calendar for more details.

Events are scheduled all over town, starting Friday night with snowshoeing at Russell Mill Forest and ending with a winter nature walk at the Archer Meadowbrook Reservation, with all sorts of fun indoor and outdoor activities for the entire family in between.

And if you go snowshoeing Friday night, be sure to stop by the library afterward to warm up with our “Sweet Suspense and Lethal Libations” event – lots of desserts, books and conversation.

This year’s program has been tailored to fit with the 2009 One Book Chelmsford, Three Cups of Tea and author Greg Mortenson’s picture book edition, Listen to the Wind. There are many aspects to this year’s Summer Reading program, but the two main themes are collecting Pennies for Peace and outdoor adventures.

1. Everyone is encouraged to keep track of the time you spend reading, and for every 5 hours of reading, the Friends of the Library will contribute 100 pennies for peace. Our goal is to donate $500 by the end of the summer to Greg Mortenson’s foundation for building schools
2. Enjoy hiking through Chelmsford! Chelmsford has many open spaces and trails, and hiking and exploring our community is a great way to start your own trek towards K2 like Greg Mortenson. The summer challenge for children is to hike 5 miles and record your adventures in your passbooks
