Snow or not, hopefully everyone is planning to head out around town for the many Winterfest activities, from Feb 3-5. Check out the Winterfest Website for a Schedule of Events and also an Events Map to see where in town you’d like to be.

Winterfest kicks off Friday night at 7:00 PM with a Community Social at the Library. This is also the kickoff for the Library’s One Book Chelmsford program – this year we’re not only doing more than one book, we’re doing more than one author! Check out our One Book Chelmsford page for more details and event dates.

There will be lots of great food, fun, and people throughout the town for the entire weekend of Winterfest, so be sure to go out and have a wonderful time. You can also brush up on your “history of Winterfest” knowledge on the website – there’s a video of some of the original founder Peggy Dunn talking with some of the other current coordinators and Town Manager Paul Cohen.

• Friday evening, February 3, 2012 – “Beat the Winter Blues Party,” the annual Winterfest Community Social. You can get copies of March and Confederates in the Attic

• Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11 a.m – Join us for a visit from our 2 authors at the High School’s Performing Arts Center

Visit chelmsfordlibrary.org/winterfest/ for a list of all the events around town, but be sure not to miss the Winterfest Social at the library on Friday night.

This annual WinterFest Social is also the kick-off for One Book Chelmsford community reading campaign. This year area restaurants and bakeries will provide delicious sweet and savory finger foods. Harrington’s Wines & Liquors will offer dessert wines for tastings. Beer and wine will also be available for purchase and coffee, tea and soft drinks will be served. $10 per person donation. Please purchase your tickets in advance at the Library.

Now, once again we’re asking for your help in choosing the next One Book Chelmsford, for 2011. Think about all the books you’ve read, or the books you’d like to read, and let us know which titles you’d like selected for the Town to read in 2011.

The next time you’re in the library, give your nomination suggestion to any staff member. Or, you can submit your nomination online by clicking the “Submit Your Nomination” link on our homepage or using the One Book Nomination Form.

The One Book Committee will review all the suggestions and narrow them down to three final choices. Then on Election Day in November, the entire Town will vote for which of those three they’d like to be One Book Chelmsford 2011.

This event will take place at 1:00 PM at the Chelmsford High School Performing Arts Center (directions and map). There is no admission fee, but we are asking people to register on our website so we know what size crowd to expect. Shutter Island will be discussed, but attendees are also encouraged to ask questions about any of Dennis Lehane’s books – including the upcoming Moonlight Mile.
