Chelmsford Library Book Sale 2010

Book sale!The annual Chelmsford Friends of the Library Book Sale is this week!

2010 Book Sale Dates and Times

Friday, Sept. 24th 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
Saturday, Sept. 25th 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sunday, Sept. 26th 9 a.m. – 1 p.m.

The sale will take place in the gym behind the Town Office building, 50 Billerica Road, Chelmsford [see a map].

Run by the Chelmsford Friends of the Library, the book sale is a significant source of funding for library programming, museum passes and many extras for Chelmsford patrons – the 2009 Book Sale brought in $27,000!

New England Aquarium Pass Available

New England AquariumDuring the summer months, there are no museum passes for the New England Aquarium. However, starting right after Labor Day, Chelmsford Residents (and members of the Friends of the Library) will once again be able to reserve our pass to visit the Aquarium.

This pass admits 4 people for the reduced admission of $8.00 per person, but does not provide discounts on parking, the IMAX Theater, cafe' or gift shop, and cannot be applied toward Whale Watch tickets.

Summer might be ending, but there's still lots to go out and do. Visit our website to reserve the Aquarium pass, as well as any of our other museum passes.

New Museum Pass: One Stop Fun

One Stop Fun logoWe just added another new museum pass for patrons to use - One Stop Fun in Westford.

Our pass admits one child and one adult to the indoor playground at no charge (a $9.99 value), and passholders can upgrade to use the pool for an extra $5.00. This pass, and all our other museum passes, can be reserved through our Museum Pass webpage.

One Stop Fun "was originally known as Gymnastics Unlimited, Inc. and Gym Mania, Inc. When we expanded our center to include a full service Dance Center, the ultimate Party Place and our interactive outdoor Pool Plaza, we became One Stop Fun."

New Resources Available at the Library

Through the library, Chelmsford residents now have access to a few new research and reference databases, and one new museum pass:

New Museum Pass
American Textile History MuseumThanks to the Chelmsford Friends of the Library we now have a new pass to the American Textile History Museum in Lowell. The American Textile History Museum tells America's story through the art, history, and science of textiles. The pass admits two adults and two children to the museum, and all 17 of our museum passes can be reserved through our website.

New Research Databases

  • Safari Computer Ebooks - Online collection of over 3,000 computer and technical ebooks, covering programming, design, desktop publishing, ecommerce, online business, hardware and more, from publishers such as O'Reilly, Wiley, Pretence Hall, and many more.
  • Encyclopedia of American Immigration - Online access to Salem Press' Encyclopedia of American Immigration, covering the various cultures and significant individuals that immigrated to the US, and their impact after arriving. The Salem History database also searches Great Lives from History: Inventors and Inventions.
  • Great Lives from History: Inventors and Inventions - Online access to Salem Press' Great Lives from History: Inventors and Inventions, offering in-depth biographical essays on important men and women inventors of all time, from around the world. The Salem History database also searches Encyclopedia of American Immigration.

2010 Book Sale Drop-Off Dates Announced

Stack of BooksThe Friends of the Library have begun scheduling drop-off dates for book sale donations. These dates are listed below, and more information is available on the Friends' Book Sale webpage.

Please consider helping make the 2010 Book Sale a success - the 2009 Book Sale raised over $27,000 for the Library!

Book Sale Donation boxIf you are unable to make one of the scheduled drop-offs, you can use the Book Sale Donation box, located on the edge of the parking lot between the Library and the Dutton House.

Or, if you are emptying a house or an estate and would like to donate a large collection of books, please contact the Friends directly to make special arrangements.
