Book lists: A summer reads preview!

Friday, May 22nd, 2015 - by: Jessica Fitzpatrick

Your summer reading list is here! Our bimonthly presentation of new and recently released books highlighted many great titles for vacations, stay-cations, or just mini-escapes on your lunch break. Highlights from the presentation on May 22th are listed below. Hover your cursor over each book cover to view a brief description. Click on the image to go to the item in our catalog. The full list of books is available on our website. Join us for our next presentation, in two months, on July 17th.

Twenty-three-year-old Elaine Kelly doesn't earn much as a bank teller, and most of her salary goes toward caring for her terminally ill mother. When a lonely old man who deposits money at her bank every week gets hit and killed by a delivery truck, Elaine--a good Irish girl from Queens--thinks she's found the answer to her problems. She'll just transfer $1 million from the dead man's account into hers. Except that the lonely old man may not have been who he seemed. And when you take $1 million that isn't yours, it can cost you... way more

The Chelmsford Library is now on Instagram!

Tuesday, April 14th, 2015 - by: Brian Herzog, Head of Reference

CPLinstagramTo celebrate National Library Week, April 12 – 18, the Library is launching an Instagram account. You can find us at https://instagram.com/chelmsfordlibraryma/

Instagram is great for sharing quick photos, so we wanted to show off "24 hours in the library," with one photo every hour. (Since, unfortunately, we're not open 'round the clock, those 24 hours will be spread over the entire week.) We're going to be capturing slices of life in the library, our collections, our patrons - and maybe you!

Here's a sample of some photos so far:

Check us out at https://instagram.com/chelmsfordlibraryma/, follow us, share our photos, and comment to let us know what you think. And, be sure to tag your own photos #chelmsfordma so we can follow you too!

Last Weekend To Donate Books!

Friday, January 16th, 2015 - by: Brian Herzog, Head of Reference

stop signThis weekend is the last chance people will have to donate books to the library until Spring.

Since the Dutton House next door to the library could not be sold to be moved, the Selectmen have approved its demolition. The work of clearing the building for demolition is to begin immediately, which also means that the house can no longer be used for book sale storage.

Therefore, starting on Tuesday, January 20th, 2015, the library cannot accept any book donations until the Dutton House is replaced with a new storage building. Plans for a storage building, additional parking, and more green space will be finalized by the Spring. We'll update everyone when the library will be able to once again happily accept donations from our patrons.

We apologize for this interruption in accept donations, because the library truly appreciates the generosity and support of the Chelmsford community.

Latest on Proposed Move for the Dutton House

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014 - by: Brian Herzog, Head of Reference

Dutton HouseIn case you haven't yet seen the story on the Chelmsford Independent's website, they posted a recap of the latest Zoning Board of Appeals meeting to review the proposal to move the Dutton House.

Since there are still challenges to the Dutton House's proposed new location and use, the ZBA has scheduled a site walk to get a better idea of what the move would mean to the surrounding neighborhood.

The site walk, at 71 North Road, will talk place Saturday, April 12 at 8:30 a.m.

For historical photos and documents relating to the Dutton House, you can visit the Chelmsford Historical Commission's listing for 10 Bartlett Street. They also have information on many other homes and significant resources in Chelmsford.

My favorite Dutton House photo includes the old water tower:
