Get A Library Card

Online Application

If you live anywhere in Massachusetts (including Chelmsford) and do not already have a card from an MVLC Library, you may apply for a library card online.

In-Person Application for a Chelmsford Library Card

If you live in Chelmsford, your employer is the Town of Chelmsford, or you own a business or property in Chelmsford, you may apply in person at the Chelmsford Public Library.  Bring proof of identity and current address/employment.  Items that may serve this purpose include (but are not limited to) a government-issued photo id, utility bill, tax bill, current use of a Town of Chelmsford work email address, or school photo ID.

If you have a card from another MVLC library, currently live in Chelmsford, and would like to convert your existing card to a Chelmsford one, you may do so in person.  Bring proof of Chelmsford address with you.

Residents of other MVLC Library Towns may apply for a card in person at your hometown library.  The card issued to you can then be used at all 36 MVLC libraries.  Note that if you do not already have a card with an MVLC library, you may apply for a library card online.  We will assist you in using the online application, as needed.

Those without permanent housing may use the (free) “general delivery” service offered at the Chelmsford Post Office, as a permanent mailing address for purposes of getting a library card through Chelmsford.  Alternatively, you may submit a form signed by Jen Melanson, the Town of Chelmsford’s Community Services Coordinator.

Call 978-256-5521, option 1, for assistance.  See our Borrowing Guidelines page for more information on eligibility.
